candy stone crassula o1

20  x  20” | A V A I L A B L E

One day I discovered this juicy succulent growing in my backyard. It’s known as Crassula Arborescens. But as an art piece I will refer to it as Candy Stone Crassula. “Candy” because it’s leaves look cute, pudgy, and gummiesque. “Stone” because it’s native to the stone crop family. And “Crassula” is its genus and means thick, fat, and fleshy. Each leaf looking like a nubbin to be plucked, is edged in color, as if there are hidden pigments within.

It symbolizes prosperity, wealth, good chi, and good fortune.  I collected about 20 or so individual spoon-shaped leaves from the plant, took them back to my studio to make plaster casts of. Once hard and dry, I painted each, sanded them smooth, and created this wall sculpture.
